Rachel Takes Tokyo Marathon for Glioblastoma Research

Community Member-Led Event

Hi everyone! I am so excited to announce I will be running the 2027 Tokyo Marathon in honor of my dad on March 7 supporting the Glioblastoma Research Organization.

This is an organization with a mission close to my heart. As many of you know my dad, Michael Berman, fought a courageous battle with Glioblastoma. My best friend, confidant, role model, everyone’s best friend.

He was diagnosed with an egg sized tumor in November of 2015. His symptoms were intense irritability and memory loss. One evening he and  my mom were driving home from a restaurant they eat at often and he forgot where he was going. I share this so anyone experiencing similar symptoms or feeling unlike themselves goes to see their doctor as soon as possible. Glioblastoma is difficult to detect early because symptoms don’t usually surface until months after the tumor has begun to grow.

Since my dad's diagnosis in 2015, Duke, MD Anderson, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and Johns Hopkins (to name a few) have been conducting clinical research trials to create better chemotherapy drugs, immunotherapy treatments and using targeted radiation, such as proton radiation and IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy). The advancements in treatment give Glioblastoma warriors better options and a higher outcome of survival from this monster of a disease. Or at least more time on earth.

This would not be possible without funds raised by you all. If you are able to donate, even a small amount, it goes a long way. Please click the link below to spread your generosity to people fighting against Glioblastoma. I thank you in advance for your support. I have no doubt we can raise 10K by March 7th, 2027. I am overjoyed to represent GBMRO in Tokyo!

We are going global baby!
